Revolution Foods Back to School Nutrition – Products Worth Reviewing and Giveaway

REVOLUTION FOODS

With Summer waning to a bittersweet end, parents are starting to think about preparing for their children’s new school year. My son will be starting first grade this year. Yikes! It’s going to be a big year for him transitioning from a smaller private kindergarten to a larger public school. I think I’m more nervous than he is and that’s granted given I tend to over think on a lot of things. But I also want to be super prepared as well and I want to make sure my son has the best new school year experience possible.

That being said, proper lunch nutrition is top on my list. When I was in elementary school I distinctly remember my mom packing my lunch. I may have gotten a few stares here and there for not buying school lunches, but I was always satisfied with what was in my lunch bag. Now with budget cuts and “mystery” food being served in schools around the country, it’s no wonder that more and more parents are sending their children off to school with homemade lunches. It’s less expensive and it’s a whole lot healthier as long as you provide healthy choices.

When I was doing research and approached with healthy school lunch initiatives, it saddened me that certain schools around the country offered only the barest of nutritional options to their students. Perhaps the budget cuts around the nation put a real dent in what the schools could afford to buy, but that also meant there are children who have no choice in what they eat at school. So when I learned about Revolution Foods Making Cities Healthier initiative, I was not only intrigued but I wanted others to know about what this company does as well.

REVOLUTION FOODS MEALS

Revolution Foods (http://revolutionfoods.com/) was founded by two moms who believed that healthy food choices shouldn’t be limited to only those who could afford it. Their program to help schools provide healthier lunches began seven years ago and is currently serving more than 1 million healthy meals a week in school districts across the country. They hope to one day be the revolution of healthier meals at schools with not only proper lunches, but real life nutrition education as well. Revolution Foods provide only natural products and their meal kits may one day replace those other conventional meal kits we see on the shelves today. Revolution Foods meal kits are healthy, contain only natural ingredients, and are a whole lot of fun for kids and adults to enjoy a wholesome, delicious, and healthy meal. I never realized how important it was to pack school lunches for my own child until I heard my friends and relatives talk about the lack of nutrition at their children’s schools. It’s unnecessary really, and the sad fact is that not all parents have the time or resources to pack lunches for their children so they have to rely on what their schools offer.

Revolution Foods Meal kits make it much easier for busy parents. It’s a cool and healthy way for kids to enjoy their lunch or after school snack. The meal kits come with a crackers and protein option or a cheese pizza option and a natural sweet snack. It doesn’t include a beverage however, but just add a bottle of water, milk, or juice to your child’s lunch bag and you’re all set. Depending on the age of your children, I think the meal kits are great for a light lunch or an anytime-of-the-day snack. But if you do pack it for your child’s school lunch, make sure they are old enough to be able to open the boxes and the plastic wrapping. The meal kits are all neatly packed and includes fun activities printed on the box itself. I got my son the Turkey and Cheddar Meal Kit which came with whole wheat crackers, all natural cheese, and all natural turkey slices. And also the Ham and Cheddar Meal Kit which also included crackers, cheese, and ham.

REVOLUTION FOODS KITS

What I really enjoy most about these meal kits are the natural ingredients used. There are no “artificial anything”, no nitrites/nitrates that you’d typically find in deli meat, and no preservatives. It’s not only healthy for your children but better for the planet as well. Although the meal kit is really meant as a snack or a light meal, I think if you did use it as lunch for your kids, you’d want to pack some yogurt and fruit in there as well just to fill them up a bit. My son had the meal kits when we were on a road trip and it helped a lot with car boredom and we didn’t have to stop at a fast food restaurant to satisfy his rumbling tummy.
