About the Author and Site

Welcome to my Blog! First, please allow me to introduce myself.

I am a first-time mom to an adorable little boy and a wife of 10 years and counting….. I didn’t know much about parenting before my son was born, but I do have a bit of experience with children. I worked as a preschool teacher for over 5 years when I first moved to Southern California. I moved to So Cal. basically to continue an education in fashion and costume design. After all, where’s the best place to nurture a fledgling career in fashion – LaLaLand, of course!

After a brief stint in costuming for music videos, independent films, and other freelance gigs, I decided that I wanted to do something else – writing. I’ve always loved writing alongside with sketching clothes and such. And writing was my other love besides costume design. I worked in a prominent publishing company for many years and then moved to a smaller publishing firm later. Now, I freelance write for several magazines and contributed to a couple of books.

But what does all this have to do with parenting and my blog? Well, everything is tied together and  some things will always lead to another thing. I gave birth to a wonderful but oftentimes mischievous boy (but he is only in his toddler years at the moment) and writing freelance gave me a wonderful opportunity to stay home. I also have a very supportive husband who allows me to indulge in writing and being a stay-at-home-mom. And after many years as a preschool teacher and with over 15 years of experience in the health and education industry, I found that sharing my experiences and knowledge to others can also help me learn and grow as well.

So here I am, writing my own blog! I hope  you will enjoy reading my posts. You’ll most likely find topics on parenting and what I’ve learned from it so far, kids and parents in general, family, media, health, nutrition, being a “green” mom, vegetarianism, how to save money, and whatever topics that I hope you’ll find interest in. If I gave you even the tiniest tidbit of information that you found useful, then I’m happy. I promise to keep the posts clean and I welcome you to comment on my blog (just keep it clean too :))

  1. Hi,

I hope you’re having an awesome week thus far!

Imagine 20 years from now, when your kids become adults. Wouldn’t it be cool if you can show them their old drawings and artwork?

I found your blog on the Top Mommy Blogs website and I thought it would be a good idea to let you know about this site. I sincerely hope you can find it beneficial.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my email. This means a lot.

  2. Heard about you from a friend, Steve Shriver, and Ecolips. We were around in Iowa City when he and Andrea started Ecolips… My husband and I now own a Fair Trade, Organic, Shade Grown coffee roasting company, in its eighth year, on the Kitsap Peninsula, across the Sound from from Seattle. We were actually the first coffee roaster in the country to become CarbonFree Certified and are a member of Yvon Chouinard’s 1% for the Planet. So appreciate your focus on health, organic and sustainability – critical elements for parents to pay attention to these days! Kudos!

  12. Hi Suzan,

We’re conducting a survey about electric vehicles and are interested in what Moms & their families think. Generally, men respond to these types of surveys, but the car industry and utility companies feel that it’s important to get women’s perspectives on this clean transportation option. Would you be willing to take the survey or share it with your readers?

If you are concerned about the environment and the affect pollution has on your family, you can make your voice heard by taking the Electric Vehicle Information Exchange survey, which will help auto makers, utilities and cities understand what people like you want out of alternative fuel cars. Participate in the survey and register to win an iPad: http://bit.ly/Oceanus-EVIXSurvey

Your participation would be greatly appreciated!

  16. Hello Suzan,

The reason I am writing to you is that I am trying to create a private label of olive oil from my family’s farm back in Greece (I live in UK). It is of course for my own benefit as well but I mainly try to promote my villages olive oil which is now sold at excruciating prices to the big italian brands, if you add all the trouble Greece is going through it does’t up well at all. You could  learn a bit more if you visit http://kck.st/Y33IMf.
I don’t know if it is in your ethos  or even possible to mention it somehow but any help promoting my kickstarter project would be greatly appreciated.
I would more than happy to send you a bottle when it will be available if you would like to try some or if you would like to give some away in a competition.

    Thank you ,
    Akis

    Many Thanks

  18. I hope this email finds you well! I just wanted to reach out to you personally and tell you about the next chapter of The Fresh Beat Band. After 60 episodes and almost 300 sold out shows on our national concert tour, Nickelodeon and The Fresh Beat Band have embarked on a brand new adventure together… The Fresh Beat Band of Spies. Now I’m definitely biased because I’m involved in the project (and I’m a cartoon, which is a dream that I didn’t even know I had for myself) but the show is fantastic and super fun. It’s like Scooby Doo meets Charlie’s Angels, with all of the music, both old and new, that you’ve come to expect from the Fresh Beat Band. We’ve also managed to get Tom Kenny aka SpongeBob Squarepants to join us as well. He provides the voices of Bo (our sidekick Monkey), Reed (the Bosley to our band of spies) and countless other voices across the season. The guy is a one-man-band of voices and an inspiration to have on the team. Voiceover work is new for the four beats, and we get to work with and learn from a grand master. The audience can also be on the lookout for special guest vocal appearances by actors like Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Jerry O’Connell. The show premieres June 15th at 7 pm/6 central time on NickJr and we’re hoping audiences love watching the show as much as we have love making it. The best part is that the show appeals to the core audience of the original show, while providing the kind of action and adventure that appeals to slightly older kids as well. It’s also the first time NickJr has launched one of their shows in Prime Time, so we are quite honored by the vote of confidence! I’ve included a link below to our site on NickJr, where you can find all of the promos that are running on the network right now, introducing you to our show! Any help you could get us in promoting the show would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading this email and thank you for all of the support over the years. This has been quite a life changing experience and we have people like you to thank for it!

    Thanks again,

Thomas Hobson aka Shout from The Fresh Beat Band and now The Fresh Beat Band of Spies
