Food Should Taste Good – Products worth Reviewing and Giveaway

“Food should taste good”. What an accurate statement made by the company who’s also called, Food Should Taste Good. Because honestly, food should taste good, right? If not, then you wouldn’t be eating them by the handful – and that’s what I’ve been doing with Food Should Taste Good corn chips ever since I discovered them awhile ago. They are all-natural, scrumptious corn chips that can be enjoyed as is, or with your favorite dip.

Food Should Taste Good began with a simple mission: that food tastes best when it’s made with real ingredients. And if you look at the label of ingredients on each bag, you’ll notice very basic all-natural ingredients are used and nothing artificial. Of course corn is  the main ingredient as well as high oleic sunflower oil and each product contains unique ingredients that pertain to its specific flavor. Their chips include flavors such as Multi-grain, Jalapeno, Sweet Potato, Lime, and Chocolate. Yes, chocolate corn chips – what an ingenious invention!

Snacking is a necessary evil in our household. But we don’t just snack on any ol’ snack. No, I’m a bit picky when it comes to what I buy and keep in our pantry of snacks and goodies. And Food Should Taste Good ranks high on my list of snacks for us. Their bags are also beautifully designed. My son loves their chips, my husband can’t stop eating them, and I devour the whole bag if I allowed myself. But there really isn’t any guilty pleasure when you’re eating a Food Should Taste Good bag of chips – no, because they’re nutritiously-made, they’re low in fat and high in good fat, low in sodium, low in sugar, and most contain naturally-occuring calcium and iron. So it’s okay to eat a whole bag of Food Should Taste Good corn chips – I don’t recommend it – I’m just saying that I personally can.

Food Should Taste Good was started by an entrepreneur who believed that all food should taste good no matter what. With many years of experience in the food and restaurant business, Pete decided he wanted to develop his own line of good-for-you snacks made with wholesome and all-natural ingredients. His business really took off and now you can find Food Should Taste Good in practically every supermarket across the country and even in some big warehouse stores, like Costco. The company also donates regularly to local charities including their recent fundraiser campaigns with breast cancer awareness and ending childhood hunger. You can read all about their philanthropic endeavors here: http://www.foodshouldtastegood.com/#/FoodShouldDoGood/

But I think that beyond giving back to the community and being environmentally responsible, Food Should Taste Good makes high-quality corn chips. With each unique flavor profile, I can definitely taste the bittersweetness chocolate in their chocolate chips; the tangy lime in their lime chips; and the flavorful sesame in their toasted sesame chips. Whenever you’re buying chips for personal use, for parties, or for gifts, I think it’s extremely important to buy premium chips whenever possible. Your body will thank you for it and your friends will thank you for it. And most importantly, your taste buds will be completely delighted!

The kind folks at Food Should Taste Good has generously offered one of my LUCKY readers a chance to win a Deluxe box of assorted Food Should Taste Good chips. So how do you win this delicious prize? Read below to find out!

HAPPYBABY – Happy Family – Products worth Reviewing and Giveaway

Being a parent isn’t easy – just ask any parent. It’s even harder when you’re a first time parent. What do I feed my child when he/she is able to eat solid food? What if he/she has allergies? What’s the amount of food to feed them? All these are abundant questions that’s part of being a first time parent. I know that after I gave birth to my son, and being showered with tons of advice from everyone, my most pertinent question when he turned 6 months old was, when do I start him on solid food? And most importantly, what do I feed him for his first solids? A juicy steak? Pot roast? Vegetable casserole? Okay, you’re probably thinking I was a bit crazy to be thinking of serving him food like that – but actually, there is a company that makes food for babies and young children that’s pretty close to what adults eat on a normal basis. And that company is HAPPYBABY.

HAPPYBABY makes organic and all-natural food specifically designed for babies and toddlers. And that means food that are free of dangerous pesticides, chemicals, GMO’s, preservatives, and food coloring. They also add important nutrients such as DHA to help with brain growth and probiotics for digestive health. And most importantly, their food is delicious! My son loves their Happy Melts and Happy Bites and I love the fact that they are made from organic ingredients and do not contain any yucky stuff.

HAPPYBABY was developed by a mom with the idea in mind that all parents need some help in feeding their children nutritious food. We as parents try our best to provide our children with the best food, the best toys, and the safest car seats. But we don’t always have the time to make our own food for our babies and younger kids. And babies and toddlers can not necessarily eat what adults eat because of digestion, allergies, and not enough teeth to chew. And we don’t always have the resources to buy organic ingredients either. That’s why HAPPYBABY is a great choice for babies and toddlers because they do all the work for us.

HAPPYBABY makes organic frozen food, organic snacks, organic cereal, organic yogurt melts, and organic pureed food. Their products contain only natural ingredients so you don’t have to worry about what goes into your kids tummies. Their products are also allergen friendly with complete ingredients disclosure. Their products are also packaged in BPA-free materials so you don’t have to worry about the toxic chemical leaking into the food. And their products are Dr. Sears approved and recommended. Most importantly though, their food is absolutely scrumptious! And they’re easy to prepare and eat. Their frozen bites make excellent complete meals or as a side dish or a snack and I myself even enjoy their yogurt melts. Their yogurt melts have a truly unique sensation and flavor. You really can’t go wrong with HAPPYBABY foods. This company does everything possible to ensure your children will get a nutritious, delicious, and organically-made meal.

I discovered HAPPYBABY and their HAPPYFAMILY line of products awhile ago and because they also practice sustainability methods as well as being socially responsible, that’s a great plus in my book. You can read more about their “Project Peanut Butter” campaign here: http://www.happybabyfood.com/make-a-difference/58/62-project-peanut-butter. So if you’re going to buy something that’s as important as a nutritiously-made meal for your kids, then why not also support a company who believes in giving back to our planet and to the world?

HAPPYBABY believes in helping families with the hassle of making their own baby food because sometimes we simply just don’t have the time to make a complete and nutritious meal. With a complete line of products to choose from, you’re sure to find something that your baby and toddler will enjoy. Their prices are also very reasonable and you can find most of their products in Babies R’ Us, Toys R’ Us, and some of your local natural grocery stores and supermarkets. They even offer a newsletter on their site and if you sign up, you’ll get offers for coupons and discounts.

Here’s the exciting part: HAPPYBABY has generously offered 1 LUCKY reader of Happymomblogger a chance to try their products. They have given me 5 FREE product coupons for the winner to pick up his/her own flavors.

The 5 Free Product coupons are: 1 FREE HappyMelts; 1 FREE HappyBaby Puffs; 1 FREE HappyBellies; 1 FREE HappyBaby or HappyTot Organic Meals and 1 FREE HappyBaby Fresh Frozen Organic Meal.

Frito-Lay for Natural Snacks – Review and Video Contest

A few years ago I asked myself, “are there any healthy chips out there?” Well, a few years ago there weren’t that many healthy chips out on the market. Besides a handful of small organic and natural companies with only a modest amount of flavors to choose from, that was pretty much it in choices. But today, more and more mainstream companies are trying to improve their brand image by creating healthier versions of their otherwise “unhealthy” snacks. So yes, there are healthier chips out there that contain less fat, less sodium, and more importantly, natural ingredients without any additives. Thus is the case with the company, Frito Lay. You’ve probably heard of Frito Lay –  you probably even have a few of their chips in your cupboard right now. Their snacks can be found virtually anywhere and pretty much everywhere, but  what I was most concerned about was that most of their chips contained preservatives and food coloring. Icky stuff that I don’t really want my son to eat (or even myself).

Enter Frito Lay’s latest natural chips which do not contain preservatives, or artificial colors. Actually, Frito Lay already made natural chips with their low-sodium potato chips and their regular potato chips and corn chips. If you look at the ingredients on the back of the bag, it simply lists potato, salt, and oil. And they’re mostly sunflower oil so it does add a bit more nutritional value. Now although potatoes themselves have been on and off the “Dirty Dozen” list in terms of pesticide residuals, it seems that Frito Lay has farms that grow potatoes specifically for Frito Lay potato chips as well as corn for their corn chips. This is enlightening to learn, and I’m hoping that one day they’ll disclose whether they use any toxic pesticides or fertilizers on their farms. But usually when you own your own farm, you’re pretty much in control of your crops.

As colossal as a company Frito Lay is, they have implemented ways to reduce their carbon footprint by using solar energy to produce their Sun Chips line, using renewable energy and recycled water at one of their plants, designing a more readily-recylcable bag, and so forth. They are constantly finding ways to “give back” to Earth and making sure they help in the sustainability of our planet. After all, we as human beings love to snack and if you’re going to snack on chips, why not do it responsibly and sensibly if you can? You can find more info on their ways in giving back to our planet at http://www.fritolay.com/our-planet.html.

I was given a couple of free product coupons to try their newest natural chips and to give honest feedback on their effort in helping Americans snack sensibly. Since I already know that their regular corn chips and potato chips contain only natural ingredients, I wanted to try their new Sun Chips and to see if their newly designed “compostable” bag was indeed as loud as most people have complained about. Well, it seems that their compostable bags were different than what I had expected. They no longer exuded a loud crunching sound when you’re holding the bag even slightly and yet the materials used to make the bag are still made with renewable materials. That’s pretty impressive considering the amount of Sun Chips that consumers gobble up on a daily basis. And I noticed that they’ve eliminated food coloring in most if not all of their flavored chips. That was one of my main concerns – food coloring in food is not a necessity.

So now I have renewed confidence in Frito Lay chips. I think they’re trying to make it easier for health conscious and planet conscious folks to purchase their chips. And that’s always a good thing.

Now, for the exciting part – Frito-Lay has a new Fan Video contest starting now through April 1. This contest is open only to members of the Frito-Lay fan club but my contact has offered to extend the contest to my readers. You can enter for a chance to win some great prizes from Frito-Lay. Here is a press release of the rules regarding the contest:

To create the remix video, we’re inviting a select group of Frito-Lay fans (like you!) to make your own short video incorporating some fun and easy dance moves we’ve compiled – all of which are inspired by the work we’re doing at Frito-Lay to make our snacks healthier and to reduce our environmental footprint. The moves include:
·         The Electric Truck Slide
·         Cut the Salt Shaker
·         Three Ingredient Cha-Cha
·         Whole Grain Wave
·         The Chip Churn
The first 50 people who send us their own remix video will receive an official Frito-Lay Fan t-shirt and will be featured in our final Frito-Lay Fan Remix video posted on You Tube. The top 3 most creative videos (creativity criteria to be provided with official rules) will win a Frito-Lay party pack, including a $100 American Express gift card, a chip-and-dip bowl, and more!

For those of you who are interested in entering this FUN video contest, please send an email to: info@fritolayfan.com and they will email you instructions on how to enter this contest. Natural Products Expo West!

As a blogger of parenting and organic and natural products, I had the opportunity to attend the Natural Products Expo West at the Anaheim Convention Center on March 11, 2011. The Natural Products Expo West is the largest expo of natural and organic products that is opened only to the natural products industry. At the Expo, virtually every company in the organic and natural products and food industry were presented and each had their own booth to showcase new products as well as introduce their flagship products to attendees.

I visited some of my favorite companies and wanted to touch base with them and meet some of the folks personally. Popchips, Stonyfield Farm, Earth Friendly Products, Seventh Generation, Organic Valley, Attune Foods, Honest Tea, Amy’s Kitchen, Earthbound Farm, and Snikiddy to name a few were all there and they had some really fun booths and samples to try. I was also excited to meet some new companies and see what they had to offer. Most of the companies at the show displayed all of their current products as well as any new products that they were introducing yet not out on the market. It was pretty exciting to see all of the newest products debuting at the show as well as talking first hand to the marketing and sales group about their latest gems. And let me just say, some of the companies were pretty generous with their samples – they were giving out full size samples as well as little gifts if you were lucky enough to be there when they were handing them out.

But as generous as some of the companies were with their samples and prizes, I saw way too many freeloaders grabbing up bagfuls and handfuls of free samples and gifts.  By the time anyone else got to the booths, all of the samples were gone or the companies pulled them off the shelves for fear of losing their entire stock. A couple of instances I saw some ladies grab boxes full of cookies and bread off the shelves not even pondering if maybe those were just display items and NOT samples. I mean, hey, it’s okay to take one or two but if you’re grabbing them by the handfuls, I wonder – what are you planning on doing with all of those samples? Are they going to eat all of them, give them away, or sell them on the Black Market? Buyers beware: be on the lookout for illegally-obtained organic crackers and cookies.

And yet, it was still nice to see some of my favorite companies generously doling out full size products such as chips, drinks, tea, shampoo, etc. It made me believe in their motto – that they just wanted to spread the good word of their naturally-made products. Although I didn’t have time to visit every single booth(I was there with my son) and he and I had too much fun playing games at some of the booths set up at the hall entrances, it was definitely worth the time seeing all of the new products that will be out on the market in the coming months.

Some of the highlights of the show were a visit from some of the characters from Yo Gabba Gabba and a tossing game with gel-like balls from the folks at Revolution Foods.  At the Revolution Foods game booth, if your ball landed on a point, you get a prize such as yogurt drops, beads, and my son got a big bouncy ball because he landed on a high number. There was also a 1978 Volkswagon Van (Transporter) that was fully decorated as Rudi’s Organic Bakery’s mascot. And at the Happy Family booth, a grown-up man dressed in a onesie went around passing out their snacks. That was a little disconcerting to see, but I was told that the owners of the company orginally had their young children as mascots but they were too tired from the day before so it was replaced by a grown up. At Stonyfield Farm, they were debuting their newest Greek yogurt and my son got a cute little bib and an Eric Carle growth chart. And then at the booth of Nana’s Cookie Company, perhaps my son’s favorite stop,  was seeing “George” from Curious George. He and George spent a great amount of time shaking hands, high-fiving, and taking photos. In fact, they seemed almost inseperable, like long lost friends! It was indeed a fun and educational experience.

Perhaps one of the great things about the Natural Products Expo West is the fact that the companies who attended donated all of their remaining food and samples to the local food bank – Second Harvest Food Bank. So in light of that, it makes me even more disappointed that folks would greedily take the good stuff from other folks who are less fortunate than them and who probably very rarely have the chance to enjoy organic and natural foods.

However, on the last day of the show, as we were walking out, I did ask to take a full size bag of natural potato chip(from a company I just discovered and wanted to try) and I was told rather sternly, “just take one bag”. Perhaps the companies caught on to all the other folks sneaking away with their goods?

But overall, the Natural Products Expo is a wonderful opportunity for store owners, vendors, wholesalers, and anything relatable to learn about the organic and natural products and food industry. So for those of you who find joy in eating and purchasing organic and natural products, pay attention to your natural food stores and supermarkets as the newest products from some of your favorite companies will be out soon.
